Information
This lectureship is dedicated to the memory of Maj Stanford Blake (USMC, ret) and Mrs Louise M Blake.
Stan Blake was born in Paterson, NJ, the oldest of three children born to Benjamin and Min Blake. He was raised in a multi-family environment, sharing a household with several aunts, uncles, and cousins in addition to his nuclear family, and working intermittently in his father’s variety stores. Once through his secondary education Stan enlisted in the US Marine Corps, completing his basic training at Parris Island, SC. He attained the rank of Staff Sargent before making his transition to higher education and the officer ranks. He ultimately obtained an AB in History from Upsala College in 1955, and then completed his MBA in Business Management from Fairleigh Dickinson College in 1960. He continued to serve his country after completing his Officer Candidate Training, ultimately retiring as a Major from the USMC Reserves, and went on to enjoy a long career in Business and Healthcare Management.
Louise (Feuerborn) Blake was born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in northern New Jersey. She was the oldest of three daughters born to Wilhelm and Agnes, who had both emigrated from Germany following WWI. Her upbringing was focused on education, hard work, and discipline, and sharing many household responsibilities with her younger sisters. After completing her secondary education, Louise entered the workplace performing administrative and secretarial tasks, eventually taking on higher levels of responsibility and balancing those with her more challenging and gratifying roles as a wife and mother. It was not until later in life that she was able to earn her Associate's Degree, a milestone for which she and her family were very proud.
Stan and Louise married in 1962, and they raised two proliferative children: David P. Blake, Col (ret) USAF, a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon; and Susan L. Blake, an Interior Architect. They also served as role models and doting grandparents to their two grandchildren, Benjamin S. Blake (Avalon) and Alexandra L. Blake. Stan and Louise put a tremendous emphasis on education and on service, qualities that David, Susan, Benjamin, and Alexandra have continued to emulate. Louise unfortunately died suddenly of a cardiac arrest in 2012, and Stan succumbed to the ravages of Covid-19 in 2021. This lectureship was subsequently established as a tribute to their ideals of education and service to the greater community.
